Issued as part of the Series E banknote series issued by the Bank of Japan (Nippon Ginko) on November 1, 2004. Re-issued again in 2011 with a change in the color of the serial numbers from black to brown and in 2019 with a change in the color of the serial numbers from brown to blue. Some notes for this denomination come with single and double letter serial number prefixes.
